The Lyndale Gardens project is a 10 acre collaborative project with the City of Richfield. The site is located between the shoreline of scenic Richfield Lake and Lyndale Avenue. The developer acquired the former garden center at 6400 Lyndale in 2011 with assistance from the City of Richfield, Hennepin County, The Metropolitan Council and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation and the Family Housing Fund.
A vision for the new Lyndale Gardens was created out of a process that incudes neighbors, city staff and elected officials, local businesses and inter-disciplinary team of experts at innovate and holistic community-building sessions. Distinguishing features include an emphasis on arts and culture, green space and nature, local food, healthy living, lifelong learning and housing choices for all. The first phase of the project included the completion of a 20,000 SF Lakewinds grocery store. Amazing public spaces have also been constructed along the shoreline of Richfield Lake, which include a performance stage and amphitheater, community made mosaic art, pedestrian lighting, terrace pavilion and pizza oven, bike racks, and drinking fountain. The site is rich with walking paths, including a new bridge that connects the shoreline with existing walking paths of the lake.
The next phase of the Lyndale Gardens project includes a 30 unit condominium building of for sale housing ranging in price from the mid 400’s to high 600’s. Lakeside at Lyndale Gardens condominium project will start construction Fall of 2018. A 70 unit apartment building is being planned that will line Lyndale Avenue and is also scheduled to start construction Fall of 2018. Finally, 6,000 SF of retail space is planned adjacent to the Lakewinds Co-op. The retail component will begin as soon as tenants are identified and secured.
